Unveiling the Depths of Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest: Explore Yasuni Park

Day 1 : Quito Airport

Welcome to Ecuador !

… Let the adventure start in the country of the middle of the world ! Chulla vida ! Rental of a pair of binoculars included. Transfer with your Spanish-speaking driver from your hotel to Quito airport. Domestic flight Quito – Coca (around 40 minutes). Arrival in Coca, gateway to the emerald forest. Your local guide will meet you at the airport to take you by motorized canoe to the entrance of the Yasuni Park classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its extremely rich and still preserved biodiversity.

At the entrance of the park, an immediate immersion awaits you, this time in a non-motorized pirogue, so as not to frighten the animals. Mobilize all your senses as a cocktail of sounds, smells and animal sights hidden in the dense forest awaits you.

The arrival at the outskirts of your lodge is in itself a real spectacle. It is also the only one inside the reserve itself. It is managed and benefits a local community of Amazonian Kichwa culture.

After a warm welcome and extensive explanations about this exemplary project, you will return to your bungalow for a night lulled by the incredible sounds of this forest, one of the last great refuge of terrestrial biodiversity.

Day 2 : Napo Wildlife Center

Wake up early to observe the easiest clay-licking parrots in Ecuador, about 1 hour from the lodge. You will have the chance to see up to 11 species of parrots, parakeets and macaws.

You will then hike along a forest trail to visit the kichwa Kuri Muyu interpretation center run by the women of the community, also known as mamakuna . You will then learn about Kichwa culture, crafts, customs and the traditional use of natural resources.

After a walk of about 30 minutes, you will arrive at the second wall of parrots and other species. This is where you will have lunch, before returning to the lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 3 : Napo Wildlife Center

After having breakfast, you will leave the lodge to discover a breathtaking view of the rainforest from a 36 meter high tower. You will cross a wooden platform and discover the view once reserved for birds. You will have the opportunity to spot birds that are virtually impossible to see from the forest floor far below, they will suddenly be right next to you, unaware of your presence.

This is the second tower of the Napo Wildlife Center (the first is attached to the dining room and offers a breathtaking view of the lake). The tower is located about 30 minutes from the lodge in the middle of the mainland forest.

After having lunch, you will hike in the heart of the forest, accompanied by your guide. You will then set off to explore the lake and the creeks by canoe with great possibilities of coming across a family of giant otters.

Day 4 : Napo Wildlife Center

This quick overview of one of the richest environments on the planet, both for its biological richness and for its importance in climatic balances, is coming to an end. You will leave early in the morning to reach the city of Coca.

This stage of your journey is not just any stage, it will undoubtedly have made you aware of the importance of preserving this forest at all costs, beyond the extraction of its resources, of which you will see on the way back some traces darkening this idyllic picture.

*NOTE: the trip in a non-motorized pirogue will be 1h30. The return trip by motorboat will take about 2h15.* You will take a 40 minutes domestic flight from Coca to Quito. Reception at Quito airport by your spanish-speaking driver.
